humans don’t have enough ornamentation. where’s the plumage, the antlers

i could go for a good vibrant throat sac i could display as i sing in the mating season

Humans have some of the most extreme hair variation over their bodies in the animal kingdom, with hair on some parts of our body a few millimetres long and fine enough to be almost invisible, and hair in other parts a good metre long if not artificially trimmed. Part of the inside of our mouths are turned out to make our lips bright red, we have comically oversized breasts and lack penis bones to make erections more indicative of impressive circulation, and have some of the most complex behavioural adaptations to self-ornamentation for courtship seen in anything that doesn’t spend half its life collecting blue bottle caps. How much ornamentation do you want?

I’d like antlers, as previously stated

I want bioluminescence

studio execs: but- but what about our prestige limited series what about our diversity what about young sheldon!?

tumblr users: shh columbo’s talking about his wife

Sorry, I don’t care that Netflix shows are delayed, I’m catching up on anime from 1989.

The "who would win?" meme. On one side is a stock image of sad executives captioned "studio execs who have a meltdown at the mere thought of making slightly less money." on the other side is a picture of a cabinet full of dvds captioned "my collection of dvds."ALT

I’m over here re-watching Farscape for the 10th time I’m all good

i wonder if the studio execs just, like… forgot how many movies and tv shows they have sold us on DVD and Blu-ray because they’ve stopped pushing that nearly as much in favor of streaming, to the point where lots of recent stuff (especially tv shows/anything from streamers) hasn’t actually been released on physical media

i mean there’s plenty of us out here who have been complaining about the lack of physical media being made available for both archival reasons and personal use reasons. we’ve got plenty of stuff to watch!

The studio execs haven’t forgotten how many movies and tv shows they’ve sold us on DVD and Blu-ray over the years; the main reason why they’ve stopped pushing them nearly as much in favor of streaming is the perception among the execs that these forms of physical media appeals to a considerably older demographic of the audience (mostly Boomers and GenX’ers who were younger when these physical media formats debuted). They believe that young people - Millennials and GenZ - simply aren’t interested in DVD’s and Blu-rays, and they’re not going to take the time - and spend the money - to collect and curate a huge library of DVD’s and Blu-rays.

This is why a lot of recent stuff, especially tv shows/anything from streamers hasn’t been released on physical media; the studio bosses have convinced themselves that young people simply aren’t interested in tv shows being available on physical media for archival reasons and personal use reasons, and the older generations who are still buying DVD’s and Blu-rays isn’t going to be large enough to keep those physical media formats afloat too much longer.

So, how can young people be introduced to DVD’s and Blu-rays, and experience the joy of discovering classic tv shows and movies like so many of us did when DVD’s and Blu-rays first came out, along with learning how to curate a DVD and/or Blu-ray collection?

I truly believe that it has little to do with what they think young people want and everything to do with the fact that if you have no physical copy of a thing and want to rewatch it, you need to keep paying for a monthly streaming service. You can’t quit Netflix without losing Netflix content; you can’t quit Prime without losing stuff exclusive to Prime. If I could just buy, like, The Old Guard or Lockwood & Co. or Set It Up, I could quit Netflix very easily… which they know, and don’t want to happen.
